The Rules of Laying Foundation in Major Pool Projects

Are you keeping up with our latest pool project? If not, we recommend going back to the first blog post introducing our “Texas-sized Outdoor Oasis” – you won’t want to miss out on this, trust us.

In the first post, we gave a rough schedule of the project plan, and we’re looking forward to taking you through step two today; laying the foundation! If you’re excited to see how this project turns out, keep reading!

Laying Foundation for Pools

Before we jump into what you need to know about pool foundation, let’s take a look at our construction schedule.

  • Drilling and pouring piers
  • Shooting gunite for the pool
  • Constructing the pool deck & retaining wall
  • Building the outdoor structure and cabana
  • Constructing the landscape and soft scape
  • Filling the pool with water

As you can see we’ve made it to the second step, setting the foundation, so here’s what you need to know! The purpose of this step is important because it sets us up for step three: constructing the pool deck and retaining wall; without a proper foundation you won’t get either.

This particular project will incorporate special features like a cabana, kitchen, restroom, retaining walls, and decking.

To accomplish all of these enhancements, we must first start with a solid foundation after installing piers for the pool and shooting gunite. Now, we’re ready to begin constructing the foundation!

Without proper planning and a solid foundation, your pool deck and other specialty features won’t be able to withstand the test of time safely.

We’ll get into more details about the retaining walls and decks in our next post, for now, let’s focus on their foundation.

What Goes Into Pool Feature Foundations?

Your pool’s adjoining feature’s foundation will be just as unique as your pool design. These different factors are some of the most important considerations:

  • Soil conditions
  • Grade changes
  • Weight load and span of structures
  • Subsurface water migration
  • Number of people who will regularly use the pool structures
  • Deck area

Due to the size, complexity and grade change of the site; for this project, we employed a structural engineer to ensure that all of these factors were taken into consideration with our foundation plan.

While this may not be the most exciting stage in pool construction, it is important as all of the vertical and paving elements relies on the structural integrity of the foundation.

Our team of experts will walk you through every step and make sure all the bases are covered.

We want you to understand you’re in great hands when it comes to the Complete Landsculpture team. We’ll make sure your dream pool is designed, built, and maintained without a worry!
