Mandalay Towers Project: Honoring Work Well Done

The long hot days of summer are a perfect time for reflection. It’s easy to keep moving forward into the future and stay busy in the present. But it’s just as important to pause and honor work well done. So we thought we would post a special edition blog to do just that.

Over the past 34 years, we have been honing our craft and building our business so that we can best meet the needs of our clients old and new. During that time, we have sought to build an exceptional team of:

  • Designers
  • Consultants
  • Irrigators
  • Arborists
  • Contractors
  • Project managers
  • Installers
  • Maintenance specialists

And we have been more than successful! So, today, we’d like to honor our amazing team by taking a look back to a project that stretched us all and challenged us to do our best work— The Gardens by the Mandalay Tower.

The Gardens by the Mandalay Tower

The Gardens by Mandalay Tower is one of our most audacious and well-recognized projects. Located in Las Colinas (Irving) Texas, this site is set in the midst of an industrial park that was in need of some serious attention.

Las Colinas itself is a 12000-acre master-planned urban center. Its development model is a model of visionary planning and the overall aesthetic there is to blend picturesque residential pockets alongside soaring towers harmoniously— so the expectations were high!

The Gardens by the Mandalay Towerconsists of multiple pieces:  a rooftop garden, a one-acre park, and a deck. Put that way, the project was simple, but in reality, it was a much larger showcase.

A Rooftop Garden

We created a stunning rooftop garden set between two commercial building towers.

A One-Acre Park

The one-acre park connects the campus’ three towers and has an outdoor kitchen with an eating space.

Deck

And did we happen to mention that the deck is 48,000 feet covered in 30,000 square feet of concrete pavers?

Enjoying Their Own Yard

The client wanted the indoor and outdoor spaces to be seamlessly tied together for everyone to enjoy as if it were their own yard. Not only were we successful in enhancing the experience of the tenants in the building, but we were able to retain the existing infrastructure making it a win-win for both practicality and enjoyment.

The area is inviting to tenants and visitors alike. In fact, if you are ever in the Las Colinas area visit the Gardens by the Mandalay tower and let us know what you think!

National Association of Landscape Professionals

Not only were we proud of our work, and the client was thrilled with the results, but the project was recognized by three highly respected organizations in our industry— both on a local and national level. The first recognition came as the 2017 Award of Excellence from the National Association of Landscape Professionals.

The National Association of Landscape Professionals represents nearly 100,000 landscape industry professionals in the United States, Canada, and overseas. They are committed to helping members achieve success through education and training and increasing professionalism through certification and accreditation.

Member companies specialize in lawn care, landscape design and installation, landscape maintenance, tree care, irrigation and water management, and interior plantscaping. The Award of Excellence is highly sought after by National Association of Landscape Professionals members from around the world.

The Award of Excellence is celebrating it’s 50th Birthday this year. It’s an honor for this association to recognize us as one of the organizations in this legacy.

Texas Nursery and Landscape Association

We also received recognition closer to home by Texas Nursery and Landscape Association. In 2018, the association  honored us with two awards from them:

  • Texas Excellence in Landscaping Gold Award 2018: Gardens by the Mandalay Tower feature over $500,000
  • Texas Excellence in Landscaping Silver Award 2018: Gardens by the Mandalay Tower(deck) Unique Feature

Texas Nursery and Landscape Association has been serving the Texas landscaping community for over 80 years. Not only do they provide the framework, essential tools, and foresight for their members’ success, but they also serve as the authority on issues impacting the Texas Green Industry. To receive both the gold and silver awards was a great honor.

Landscape Contractor Magazine

The third recognition came when Landscape Contractor Magazine featured The Mandalay Tower project on the cover of their March 2018 magazine. They also wrote a feature article about the project!

Many thanks to the team that made it all happen. We are so proud of this work and can’t wait to do more. So let’s stop reminiscing and get to work!
